Foxconn CEO Young Liu receives Padma Bhushan for contributions as a global business leader
Foxconn CEO and Chairman Young Liu has been awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India as part of the Padma Awards 2024. This prestigious recognition is bestowed upon Liu for his outstanding contributions as a global business leader.
Foxconn, a technological powerhouse based in Taiwan, is renowned for its expertise in semiconductor manufacturing. At the helm of Foxconn, Liu oversees global operations across 24 countries/regions with over one million employees. In 2021, Foxconn achieved revenues exceeding USD 206 billion.
Liu’s journey in the industry began with the establishment of Young Micro Systems, a motherboard company, in 1988. He further expanded his expertise by founding an IC design firm called ITeX in 1995. Notably, Young Micro Systems merged with Foxconn in 1994, while ITeX was listed on NASDAQ in 2001.
Having completed his bachelor’s degree in Electrophysics from Taiwan’s National Chiao Tung University, Liu pursued a master’s degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Southern California. Under Liu’s leadership, Foxconn has become widely recognized for its manufacturing of Apple iPhones.
In India, Foxconn has been expanding its presence and already operates an iPhone factory in Tamil Nadu, employing approximately 40,000 people. The company has expressed plans to make further investments in India.
The Padma Awards, which are the nation’s second-highest civilian honors, are bestowed in three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri, recognizing exceptional and distinguished service in various fields.
