LOS ANGELES, CA – Freshman wide receiver Zach Hines is quickly making a name for himself at USC. Hines, who joined the team just six weeks ago, has been recognized as the Trojans’ third starting receiver, a significant achievement for a newcomer.

Head Coach Lincoln Riley praised Hines for his commitment and work ethic. “For any guy, but especially a young guy, it’s pretty impressive how Hines goes about his business every single day,” Riley said. “He’s an all ball guy. There’s no fluff to this guy. He’s an edgy, tough competitor, and that consistency has helped him earn the trust of his teammates and the program up to this point.”

Hines’ performance has already made an impact. In USC’s recent 33-17 win over Purdue, he showcased his skills with a spectacular leaping catch on a crucial third-and-10 play, gaining 25 yards and contributing to the Trojans’ first touchdown of the game. “I knew the team needed a big play,” Hines said. “It was third down, so I was just like I gotta step it up.”

Riley noted Hines’ exceptional ability to catch the ball, stating, “He’s kind of gotten to the point where we throw it to him and he doesn’t catch it, it’s kind of a surprise. He goes after the ball with a unique mindset for a freshman. You talk about a guy that really attacks the ball.”

Despite not yet starting a game due to the team’s formation strategies, Hines has shown promise playing at least 22 offensive snaps in each of the Trojans’ first three games. He has recorded six catches for 55 yards so far this season, with a season-high of 33 snaps against Purdue.

Hines credited his success to his trust in the coaching staff. “I just trusted the coaches,” he said. “As soon as I got here, I just dove straight into the playbook. I kept my head down, focused, and grinded.”

Even in less favorable moments, such as nearly catching a one-handed pass in the end zone against Purdue, Hines maintains a positive attitude. “I was heartbroken on that play,” he admitted. “But it’s still next-play mentality.”

As Hines continues to develop, he expresses a commitment to contributing however the team needs. “Whatever the team needs from me, I’m going to do for them,” he said.
