Legendary fuji musician, Kollington Ayinla, has dismissed rumors of his death circulating on social media. The 75-year-old musician addressed his health status at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in Ikeja, Lagos. There have been reports about Kollington battling undisclosed ailments and being in critical health conditions.

In a video shared on Tuesday, Kollington expressed his gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his support during his recent illness. He also thanked the CMD of LASUTH, Adetokunbo Fabanwo, and the hospital management for their care. Above all, he thanked God for his divine healing and all his fans who have assisted him. Kollington credited his survival to God, the governor, LASUTH, and others.

Kollington Ayinla, famously known as Kollington, is a veteran Nigerian fuji musician. He was born in Ilota, a town on the outskirts of Ilorin, Kwara State. Kollington, along with his late friend and competitor Ayinde Barrister, dominated the fuji music scene for decades, helping to popularize the genre. He is also known by aliases such as Baba Alatika, Kebe-n-Kwara, and Baba Alagbado.

Kollington’s contribution to the music industry is significant, especially between the mid-1970s and late ’80s when he ranked as one of the leading stars of Nigerian fuji music alongside Ayinde Barrister. Despite their competition, Kollington and Barrister eventually stood together as mourners at the funeral of Apala star, Haruna Ishola, in 1983. Barrister passed away in 2010 at St. Mary’s Hospital in London.

Currently, Kollington’s health condition has raised concerns as he has been hospitalized for over a week at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in Ikeja. While the family has maintained secrecy around his illness, sources claim that his condition became critical and he required oxygen support. Efforts to reach Kollington directly were unsuccessful, and his son, Sheriff Olori, known as Big Sheff, has not responded to messages seeking information about the musician’s ailment.

Kollington Ayinla has denied the rumors of his death and expressed his gratitude to those who supported him during his illness. As fans and well-wishers await further updates on his health, his contribution to the fuji music industry remains unforgettable.
