Gabriel Basso Considers Leaving Hollywood for Non-Profit Work
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Gabriel Basso, star of Netflix‘s hit series *The Night Agent*, is contemplating a future beyond Hollywood. The 30-year-old actor, who plays FBI agent Peter Sutherland in the popular thriller, revealed in a recent interview that he feels unfulfilled by acting and is considering a career shift to focus on community service and non-profit work.
Basso, who began his career as a child actor, has gained widespread recognition for his role in *The Night Agent*, which recently premiered its second season. Despite his success, he expressed a desire to contribute more tangibly to society. “Right now, I’m doing acting to the best of my ability,” Basso said. “But at the same time, I don’t feel like a productive part of society. If I build a stone wall — that’s a thing. I’ve served the community.”
The actor, who also starred in J.J. Abrams‘ *Super 8* and portrayed Vice President JD Vance in *Hillbilly Elegy*, has long been private about his personal life. While rumors have swirled about his relationship status, Basso has neither confirmed nor denied having a girlfriend. However, he did confirm the birth of his daughter in 2020, sharing a photo on Instagram with the caption, “There’s a new Basso on the planter.”
Basso’s potential career shift includes plans to establish a non-profit aimed at improving police training. “Police officers are representatives of a government people don’t trust,” he explained. “And in order to make that government real socially, people need to see something tangible.”
Despite his growing fame, Basso remains grounded, often reflecting on his journey from child actor to leading man. “Even throughout my whole child acting career, I didn’t want it,” he said. “It was just fun, it was something to do — I would not have done well if I was only going to school.”
As *The Night Agent* continues to dominate Netflix’s charts, fans are left wondering how long Basso will remain in the spotlight. For now, the actor is focused on balancing his Hollywood career with his aspirations for meaningful community impact.
