Gabriel Gudmundsson Sweden World Cup Qualifiers

STOCKHOLM, SwedenLeeds United defender Gabriel Gudmundsson has been named to the Sweden national team for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Kosovo and Switzerland.

The 26-year-old has earned 17 caps, most recently playing in September against Kosovo and Slovenia. Gudmundsson joined Leeds from Lille this summer and quickly became a significant player at Elland Road, participating in every minute of the club’s six Premier League matches so far this season.

Sweden will take on Switzerland at the Strawberry Arena in Stockholm on Friday, October 10, at 19:45 BST. They will host Kosovo at the Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg a few days later on Monday, October 13, at 19:45 BST.

Gudmundsson aims to help Sweden improve its position in Group B while striving for a spot in the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The Sweden squad includes Viktor Johansson, Kristoffer Nordfeldt, Noel Tornqvist, Hjalmar Ekdal, and Victor Lindelof among others. The team is currently looking to recover from a tough September window that saw them drop points against Slovenia and Kosovo.

In their opening matches of the qualifiers, Sweden has not yet secured a win, placing them third in their group. To advance, they must gain all six points from their upcoming home games against Switzerland and Kosovo.
