Gavin Rossdale Shares Surprising Holiday Tradition with Jack McBrayer

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Gavin Rossdale, the frontman of the band Bush, recently opened up about an unexpected holiday tradition during a March 18 episode of his cooking show, ‘Dinner with Gavin Rossdale,’ featuring actor Jack McBrayer.
The 59-year-old musician revealed that since his divorce from ex-wife Gwen Stefani in 2015, McBrayer has joined his family celebrations, making it a point to attend every Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. ‘I’ll give you a fun insight to Jack,’ Rossdale told host Graham Ferguson, 49. ‘Since I got divorced and was raising the kids on my own, he’s come to every Christmas and Thanksgiving that I do with my kids.’
Rossdale fondly recounted, ‘We just had him for Christmas, we had him for Thanksgiving, and he sent me an invoice for his presence.’ The humorous twist was met with laughter, highlighting the close bond between the two.
McBrayer, known for his role in ’30 Rock,’ appeared on Rossdale’s cooking show along with fellow guests, which include celebrity chefs and personalities. During the episode, Rossdale shared that the actor has also been instrumental in assisting with his auditions for acting roles, although he jokingly noted, ‘I have to say, I think he’s a horrible director because I haven’t got one gig yet.’
Despite the challenges of raising three sons—Kingston, 18, Zuma, 16, and Apollo, 11—Rossdale expressed a desire to impress them with his music. ‘I don’t want them to play my records to their friends and say, “What happened to my dad?”‘ he explained at a promotional event for his album, ‘The Kingdom.’ ‘I want them to be like, “My dad’s on fire.”‘
The musician elaborated on how his sons inspire him. ‘Basically, all three boys, all my kids, they’re just better versions of me. I gave them my strengths,’ he said. He noted that as Kingston develops his own music taste, they often explore bands from both past and present, adding, ‘He comes out looking better than me, generally.’
Rossdale’s thoughts on the impact of divorce on his children came to light during an interview in March 2024, where he expressed regret over his family’s split. ‘I wish I could have figured out a way to not have that in their lives. To be from a broken home wasn’t fun for me,’ he admitted. ‘You don’t want to let your kids down.’
As the conversation with Ferguson continued, Rossdale praised McBrayer, describing him as ‘the best’ and a ‘really good friend of mine’ who has significantly contributed to his recent work endeavors. The warmth and humor in Rossdale’s remarks encapsulated the surprising yet cherished friendship that has blossomed amid their respective careers.
