Gelato Messina Opens First Store In Adelaide

The popular gelato brand Messina has finally opened its first store in Adelaide, after years of planning. Founder Nick Palumbo, who hails from Adelaide himself, initially didn’t think the city was ready for a standalone gelateria. However, after witnessing the development of Kent Town, Palumbo decided it would be the perfect location for his brand’s first South Australian store.

Messina had a deal in place for an Adelaide store in 2020, but due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the opening was delayed until now. Palumbo attributes the national and international success of Messina to the company’s commitment to producing the highest quality product. Each gelato flavor is carefully crafted, using ingredients that the brand hasn’t used before. As an exclusive flavor for Adelaide, Messina is currently offering ‘I Know the Owners,’ a custard tart with iced coffee fudge.

The process of creating new flavors can be challenging and requires extensive testing. Messina’s head chef conducts trials months in advance to ensure they stay ahead of the curve. Although some flavor ideas, such as one inspired by the movie Nacho Libre with corn chips and avocado, didn’t work out, Messina continues to innovate and experiment.

Danny Palumbo, Nick’s brother and co-owner, believes that their Italian heritage and strong family values have contributed to the brand’s success. Messina is proud to embody an authentic Italian approach in their products and services.

Messina’s new store is located in Kent Town at 44 The Parade West. The store is open from Sunday to Thursday, from 12pm to 10:30pm, and on Fridays and Saturdays, from 12pm to 11pm.
