George R.R. Martin’s ‘In the Lost Lands’ Hits Theaters This Weekend

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Fans of George R.R. Martin have a new adaptation to look forward to as “In the Lost Lands” opens in theaters this weekend. The film, which premieres on Friday, March 7, showcases an epic fantasy tale centered on a werewolf named Gary Alys, played by Milla Jovovich, and a formidable hunter named Boyce, portrayed by Dave Bautista.
Based on Martin’s short story from 1983, “In the Lost Lands” follows Alys and Boyce on a quest to retrieve a valuable artifact, navigating a treacherous landscape filled with dark adversaries. The film also features Arly Jover, Amara Okereke, and Fraser James, with screenplay adapted by Constantin Werner and direction by Paul W.S. Anderson.
Jovovich, known for her role in the “Resident Evil” series, collaborates once again with her husband Anderson, who has a notable reputation in the action genre. The film is produced independently by Vertical Entertainment and, unlike many major releases, will not be streaming on platforms like Netflix or Prime Video for the time being.
As of now, moviegoers can only watch “In the Lost Lands” in select theaters across the United States. The film is not available for online streaming; however, it is expected to eventually appear on digital platforms for purchase and rental following its theatrical run.
While no official streaming date has been disclosed, speculation suggests that its digital release could align with patterns seen in previous Vertical Entertainment films. For instance, if “In the Lost Lands” follows the trend set by other releases like “Elevation,” it might be available on video-on-demand soon after its box office debut.
The independent film has a production budget of over $55 million and is anticipated to attract audiences, especially since it competes directly with Bong Joon-ho’s upcoming sci-fi film, “Mickey 17,” starring Robert Pattinson.
As fans await the film’s arrival in theaters, many are eager to see if “In the Lost Lands” will recapture the magic of Martin’s renowned storytelling, tapping into the appetite of fans craving quality fantasy adventures since the conclusion of “Game of Thrones.”
