Gerald McRaney Joins Murdaugh Family Series at Hulu

LOS ANGELES, CA — Actor Gerald McRaney has joined the star-studded cast of the highly anticipated limited series about the infamous Murdaugh family at Hulu, Variety confirmed on April 25, 2025.
The show, based on the real-life events surrounding Maggie and Alex Murdaugh, will feature acclaimed actors including Jason Clarke, Patricia Arquette, and Brittany Snow. Clarke is set to portray Alex Murdaugh, while Arquette will take on the role of Maggie. Snow will star as Mandy Matney, the journalist who has extensively covered the family’s controversies.
The Murdaugh family, once influential in South Carolina’s legal and political landscape, is associated with numerous allegations of crimes ranging from fraud to murder. This limited series aims to unravel their dark saga, drawing on Matney’s reporting and the details highlighted in the popular “Murdaugh Murders” podcast.
McRaney will play Randolph Murdaugh, described as the “lion of the Lowcountry.” He is depicted as the strong patriarch who navigated the family’s legal legacy while facing unprecedented challenges. McRaney is known for his remarkable performances in shows like “This Is Us,” for which he received two Emmy nominations.
Michael D. Fuller and Erin Lee Carr are the series’ co-creators and executive producers, with Fuller also serving as the showrunner. Nick Antosca and Alex Hedlund are also on board as executive producers through their company, Eat the Cat. The series is being produced by UCP.
