Gerard Butler’s Box Office Successes Elevate His Stardom

LOS ANGELES, CA — Gerard Butler‘s recent action film has concluded its theatrical run, grossing over $50 million worldwide and more than $35 million in the United States. Produced on a reported budget of $40 million, the film can be deemed a modest hit as it continues to attract viewers in home entertainment.
The success of this latest installment has helped the franchise’s cumulative global earnings surpass $130 million. Additionally, Butler has reached a milestone by entering the ranks of the top 150 highest-grossing leading stars in cinematic history, surpassing several legendary actors during this journey.
Butler’s films have collectively grossed approximately $3.25 billion at the global box office. This impressive figure outpaces the earnings of well-known stars such as Tom Hardy, Jamie Foxx, and Tobey Maguire. In contrast to these actors, Butler’s filmography does not feature a superhero franchise, underscoring his unique standing in the industry.
Hardy’s latest film achieved over $470 million worldwide, while Foxx and Maguire were part of the iconic film “Spider-Man,” which grossed upwards of $1.9 billion globally in a previous release. Butler’s most significant franchise remains “How to Train Your Dragon,” although he has made a noteworthy mark in the “Has Fallen” action series, which has accumulated over $500 million worldwide during its run.
Butler’s breakout role came in the film “300,” followed by strong performances in titles that showcased his versatility across various genres, including romantic comedies and action dramas. The “Den of Thieves” series aligns with his more action-oriented roles, as do the “Has Fallen” films, both of which are slated for new installments.
His premiere hit, “How to Train Your Dragon 2,” grossed over $600 million globally. “300” solidified his status with earnings exceeding $450 million, while several other films in his portfolio have also crossed the $200 million mark each.
Numerous films featuring Butler, including “P.S. I Love You,” “The Bounty Hunter,” and “Law Abiding Citizen,” have garnered over $100 million in global revenue. Notably, in “Law Abiding Citizen,” Butler starred alongside Foxx, with both actors contributing to its $133 million career total.
Looking ahead, Butler is set to reprise his role as Stoick the Vast in the upcoming sequel of the “How to Train Your Dragon” franchise. For now, fans can view “Den of Thieves 2” from the comfort of their homes, and further updates can be followed on Collider.
