Grace Wales Bonner Appointed Menswear Director at Hermès

PARIS, France – British designer Grace Wales Bonner has been appointed as the new creative director of menswear at Hermès. This announcement follows the departure of Véronique Nichanian, who held the position for a record-breaking 37 years.
Wales Bonner expressed her gratitude in a statement, saying, “I am deeply honoured to be entrusted with the role of creative director of Hermès men’s ready-to-wear. It is a dream realized to embark on this new chapter, following in a lineage of inspired craftspeople and designers.”
Pierre-Alexis Dumas, Hermès’ general artistic director, welcomed Wales Bonner to the team, highlighting her contemporary vision of fashion. “Her approach will contribute to shaping Hermès men’s style, melding the house’s heritage with a confident look at the now,” he remarked.
Wales Bonner has gained acclaim in the fashion world for her eponymous label, known for its scholarly approach that blends European tailoring with influences from the Black diaspora. Her designs often explore themes of identity and culture, resonating with a new generation of creators.
A graduate of Central Saint Martins, Wales Bonner’s career took off after winning the LVMH Prize in 2016. Her collections, such as “Ebonics,” showcase her ability to intertwine history and modernity, making significant contributions to the contemporary fashion narrative.
As she prepares for her debut show in June 2026, expectations are high for Wales Bonner to continue pushing the boundaries of menswear at Hermès while celebrating the house’s rich tradition.
The announcement comes as Hermès’ third-quarter financial results are set to be released, showcasing the continued strength of its ready-to-wear business.
