Green Bay Hosts Star-Studded Premiere for Wisconsin-Themed Film ‘Green and Gold’
GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Lambeau Field Atrium transformed into a Wisconsin wonderland Friday night as the Green Bay community celebrated the upcoming release of the independent film ‘Green and Gold.’ The movie, set to hit theaters nationwide on January 31, tells the story of a fourth-generation dairy farmer who bets his family farm on the 1993 Green Bay Packers winning the Super Bowl.
The VIP event brought together Hollywood star power and Midwestern charm, with Emmy Award-winning actor Craig T. Nelson, who plays the lead role of Buck, walking the red carpet alongside local celebrities and Packers legends. Nelson, dressed in layers of plaid and Packers gear, joked about the Wisconsin winter weather, saying, ‘I’ve got three layers of some kind of underwear on, and they’re not syncing.’
The film, directed by brothers Anders and Davin Lindwall, was shot primarily in Door County in 2021. It highlights the struggles of small farmers and the resilience of rural communities. ‘The most important thing about this movie to me was that it represented a feeling, and it represented a spirit. It represented the heartland,’ Nelson said during the event.
Guests at the premiere enjoyed a taste of Wisconsin, with cheese platters, Culver's frozen custard, and movie theater popcorn. The dress code encouraged a mix of semi-formal attire with ‘a sprinkle of denim, Carhartt, flannel, or camo,’ resulting in a uniquely Wisconsin fashion statement.
The evening also featured a live performance of music from the film, including contributions from S. Carey of the Grammy-winning band Bon Iver. Local farmers and community members who participated in the film’s production shared their experiences, emphasizing the kindness and collaboration that defined the project.
‘Green and Gold’ will be released in over 1,000 theaters nationwide, with showings in Wisconsin and beyond. Tickets are now on sale, and a list of theater locations can be found on the film’s official website.
