Groovin The Moo Cancels 2024 Tour Due to Poor Ticket Sales
The beloved regional music festival, Groovin The Moo, has announced the cancellation of its 2024 tour just months before it was scheduled to commence in South Australia. The festival’s team revealed that the decision was driven by lackluster ticket sales, leading to automatic refunds for all ticket holders.
This marks the second time in the festival’s 19-year history that it has been forced to cancel, with the pandemic-related cancellations in 2020 and 2021 setting the precedent. Groovin The Moo had curated an impressive lineup for 2024, featuring artists like Mura Masa, The Beaches, The Kooks, Claire Rosinkranz, among others.
The festival was set to kick off in late April, spanning several regional venues including Bendigo, Newcastle, Sunshine Coast, Bunbury, and Wayville. Over the years, Groovin The Moo has welcomed renowned international acts such as Alt-J, Denzel Curry, Channel Tres, Billie Eilish, Sofi Tukker, and more, captivating regional audiences with their performances.
In light of the cancellation, Groovin The Moo expressed hope for a future return to regional communities, emphasizing the significance of live music for audiences outside major cities. The festival’s announcement comes amidst a growing trend of event cancellations in the Australian music scene, with various festivals facing challenges due to factors like extreme weather events and lingering uncertainties stemming from the pandemic.
Refunds for the Groovin The Moo 2024 tour will be handled through the ticketing company Moshtix within a stipulated time frame, providing clarity and closure for disappointed fans. The decision to cancel the highly anticipated tour has sparked mixed reactions, with some critiquing the lineup while others point to the broader challenges faced by the live music industry in recent years.
