GTA 4 Remaster May Release Before GTA 6, Insider Claims

LOS ANGELES, CA — A remaster of Grand Theft Auto IV could be in development and released as early as late 2025, according to gaming insider Tez2. This news comes as Rockstar Games has officially delayed the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI to 2026.
Tez2 stated on a forum post that someone at Rockstar hinted at the IV port, suggesting that development has already been underway for about a year. This potential remaster, which originated in 2008, would mark the game’s first major update for modern consoles like PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
“We may end up seeing it drop later this year,” Tez2 noted, indicating that a re-release could coincide with a broader strategy to reinvigorate interest in the GTA franchise ahead of the highly anticipated GTA VI.
Reports suggest that if the port is successful, a similar upgrade for Max Payne 3 might follow. The insider claims this is all part of a plan organized even before the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the gaming industry.
GTA IV takes place in the fictional Liberty City, echoing New York City, and follows the life of immigrant Niko Bellic. The game has long been highly regarded, but remains stranded on older consoles—Xbox 360 and PS3—despite its availability on PC through platforms like Steam.
The timing of the potential remaster is notable, especially since it could serve as a lead-in to GTA VI. Gamers have long awaited new content from Rockstar, especially as GTA V has received multiple re-releases.
As of now, Rockstar has not made any official statements regarding the remaster, and fans are advised to treat the information cautiously until confirmed. However, should the release proceed, it would provide a fresh opportunity for players to experience Liberty City, sparking interest while waiting for GTA VI.
