GTA 4 Remaster Might Launch Before GTA 6 in 2026

LOS ANGELES, May 12, 2025 — Rockstar Games‘ highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6 has been delayed until 2026, but fans might have something to look forward to sooner. According to insider Tez2, a remaster of Grand Theft Auto 4 is potentially on the way, with a release date as early as late 2025.
Tez2 shared this information on a popular gaming forum, stating, “Someone at Rockstar hinted at the IV port,” and that the port has been in development for over a year. The remaster of the 2008 classic, which takes place in the fictional Liberty City, is rumored to be aimed at modern gaming consoles including PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The possibility of a GTA 4 port is exciting for gamers who have been waiting for an upgraded version of the iconic title. The game centers around Niko Bellic, a European immigrant pursuing the American Dream amidst crime in Liberty City, a parallel to New York City.
Tez2 also suggested that if Rockstar maintains its current schedule, a port of Max Payne 3 could follow the release of the GTA 4 remaster. However, details on any potential plans for the Switch remain unclear.
The speculation of a GTA 4 remaster has gained traction recently after the takedown of the Liberty City Preservation Project mod, which many believe was indicative of Rockstar’s own development efforts. “The removal of the LCPP mod was one more reason pointing to the potential of a GTA IV port,” Tez2 noted.
While nothing is officially confirmed by Rockstar, fans of the franchise are optimistic about the prospect of revisiting GTA 4 ahead of the launch of GTA 6, which promises to break new ground in the gaming world. Currently, the status of the GTA 6 release is somewhat uncertain, as its delay has opened conversations about what fans can expect in the interim.
Rockstar has not commented on these developments yet. As the gaming community waits for further information, the anticipation for a potential GTA 4 remaster continues to grow.
