Gwyneth Paltrow Timothée Chalamet Movie Intimacy Coordinator

NEW YORK, NY — Gwyneth Paltrow, 52, is making her much-anticipated return to acting in the film Marty Supreme, co-starring Timothée Chalamet, 29, set to be released in theaters on December 25, 2025. The film, directed by Josh Safdie, showcases Paltrow as the wife of a rival professional, ultimately entangled with Chalamet’s character, a young ping-pong champion.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Paltrow opened up about significant changes in Hollywood since her hiatus from acting, including the introduction of intimacy coordinators for filming intimate scenes. Referring to her experiences working on Marty Supreme, she remarked, “There’s now something called an intimacy coordinator, which I did not know existed.”

While discussing their decision to minimize the role of an intimacy coordinator during the filming of sex scenes, Paltrow stated, “We said, ‘I think we’re good. You can step a little bit back.’ I don’t know how it is for kids who are starting out, but if someone is like, ‘Okay, and then he’s going to put his hand here,’ I would feel, as an artist, very stifled by that.”

Paltrow referenced the online backlash that other actors have faced for opting out of an intimacy coordinator. “Best Actress winner Mikey Madison received backlash when she revealed she didn’t work with one for her film,” she said, emphasizing the need for sensitivity around these discussions in the film industry.

The intricacies of her character, described by Paltrow as “married to someone who is in the ping-pong mafia,” adds depth to the storyline, revealing a transactional nature to her relationship with Chalamet’s character. “They meet and she’s had a pretty tough life, and I think he breathes life back into her,” Paltrow explained.

Chalamet has been labeled a “thinking man’s sex symbol,” with Paltrow highlighting his professionalism and respect for his craft. “He’s just a very polite, properly raised… man who takes his work really seriously and is a fun partner,” she said.

Paltrow’s return to the big screen marks a significant moment in her career after several years away. She has been focusing on motherhood, raising her two children, Apple Martin and Moses Martin, while only recently feeling ready to step back into a serious acting role. “I didn’t even contemplate doing anything that would take me away from my kids,” she stated regarding her break from acting.

As discussions on intimacy coordinators and industry standards continue to evolve, Paltrow’s choice reflects her desire for creative freedom. She joked about the age gap between her and Chalamet, saying, “I was like, ‘Okay, great. I’m 109 years old. You’re 14.’”

With Marty Supreme set to debut soon, anticipation builds for the film’s mix of intimacy and comedy, creating a focal point within the modern context of film production.
