Haley Joel Osment Faces Charges for Intoxication and Cocaine Possession

MAMMOTH LAKES, Calif. (AP) — Oscar-nominated actor Haley Joel Osment has been charged with public intoxication and cocaine possession following his arrest earlier this month at the Mammoth Mountain ski resort. The Mono County District Attorney’s office announced the misdemeanor charges on Thursday against the 37-year-old actor, known for his childhood roles in films such as “The Sixth Sense” and “A.I.”
Osment was taken into custody on April 8 after law enforcement responded to reports of an allegedly intoxicated individual at the ski resort. District Attorney David Anderson confirmed in a news release that charges include disorderly conduct related to alcohol and possession of cocaine. Osment is scheduled for arraignment on July 7 at the Mono County Superior Court.
The arrest was initially reported by media outlets that cited a call made to the police about a disturbance caused by an intoxicated person. Ski patrollers were with Osment when police arrived at the scene. According to video footage shared by various news platforms, Osment was seen wearing his ski helmet backward and allegedly holding up the line for a ski lift while ignoring requests from fellow resort guests to move aside.
Officers confirmed he was booked and “is no longer in custody,” as per Mammoth Lakes Police Sergeant Jason Heilman. Additionally, reports indicate that during the incident, Osment used offensive language towards the arresting officer.
Osment’s legal troubles are not new; he faced previous charges in 2006 for DUI and marijuana possession after a car crash in California. More recently, he was involved in a reported incident at the Las Vegas airport where he allegedly made verbal threats to airline staff but was not detained by police.
In January, Osment also experienced personal loss as he and his family were affected by the Eaton Fire, which devastated parts of Southern California. His sister, Emily Osment, noted in January that their parents lost their home in the fire, and Haley expressed his sentiment about the loss through a now-expired Instagram story.
As of Thursday, a representative for Osment has not responded to requests for comment regarding the recent charges. The actor, who gained fame as a child in films like “Forrest Gump” and “The Sixth Sense,” continues to navigate a complex relationship with fame and personal challenges.
