Trae Young Atlanta Hawks Injury Update

Brooklyn, New York

The Atlanta Hawks secured a hard-fought 117-112 victory against the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center on Wednesday night, despite losing star guard Trae Young to a knee injury early in the game.

Jalen Johnson led the Hawks with 23 points, while Nickeil Alexander-Walker contributed 18. For the Nets, Michael Porter Jr. led all scorers with 32 points.

The game got off to a rocky start for Atlanta, as they fell behind 12-0 early. However, they regrouped, and head coach Quin Snyder praised his team’s defense after they managed to recover and take control. “From the time we got down early and called timeout, our guys were focused on that end,” Snyder said.

The turning point came when Young collided with teammate Mouhamed Gueye. Young attempted to play through the injury but soon left the court and did not return. Snyder confirmed Young’s injury is a right-knee sprain but does not believe it is an ACL injury, pending further examination.

In Young’s absence, the Hawks showcased a team effort on offense, utilizing transition plays to establish a double-digit lead. Atlanta scored 14 fastbreak points in the first half and finished with 18 fastbreak points overall.

Luke Kennard stood out with 17 points, including timely three-pointers. His performance was crucial as he filled the scoring gap left by Young. Snyder noted, “People forget sometimes that he’s not just a shooter but we do need him to shoot.”

As the game progressed and the Hawks faced foul troubles with key players like Johnson and Kristaps Porzingis, they were able to stabilize their lead during critical moments. Despite the late-game struggles in half-court offense, the team managed to hold off the Nets’ comeback efforts.

Overall, the Hawks adapted quickly to Young’s absence and demonstrated their depth, although Snyder acknowledged the challenges posed without their franchise player. “It’s something we’ll have to keep working on depending on where Trae is with his health,” he said.

As they continue their road trip, the Hawks will look to build on this victory against the Indiana Pacers next, with the hopes of Young returning soon.
