NEW YORK, NY — HBO confirmed that Season 2 of its critically acclaimed series The Last of Us will premiere on Sunday, April 13, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, with episodes streaming simultaneously on Max. The new season, consisting of seven episodes, will continue the journey of Joel and Ellie, five years after the conclusion of Season 1.

The storyline picks up as Joel, portrayed by Pedro Pascal, and Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey, settle into their new life in a commune in Montana, living alongside Joel’s brother, Tommy. This season is based on the popular video game sequel, The Last of Us Part II, and is expected to explore the complex dynamics and challenges faced by the main characters in a post-apocalyptic world.

Joining Pascal and Ramsey will be several new cast members, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, and Tati Gabrielle as Nora. Abby’s character is particularly significant, as her actions are set to create a ripple effect that impacts Joel and Ellie significantly.

“The Last of Us has been a huge success for HBO, and we’re excited to delve deeper into these characters and their journeys,” said Francesca Orsi, HBO’s head of drama. The first season garnered critical acclaim and multiple Emmy nominations, establishing a solid foundation for its sequel.

To celebrate the upcoming premiere, HBO released a trio of character posters featuring Joel, Ellie, and Abby, each showcasing the tagline “Every Path has a Price.” The visual elements hint at the narrative’s darker themes and the personal toll on each character. Ellie is depicted on a path made of a guitar, symbolizing her connection to music and her struggles, while Abby’s poster features her signature Firefly pendant.

HBO’s adaptation has been noted for its faithful yet innovative storytelling and has kept audiences guessing about its direction. Showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have indicated that Season 2 will deviate from the source material, potentially leading to unexpected developments that even gamers may not anticipate.

The Last of Us Season 2 will air weekly, concluding in late May 2025. Fans can look forward to an engaging continuation of Joel and Ellie’s story as they navigate their morals, relationships, and the ever-present dangers of their world.
