Heartstopper to Conclude with Feature Film, Filming Starts This Summer

LOS ANGELES, CA — The beloved Netflix series Heartstopper will conclude with a feature film, set to begin filming this summer. The announcement was made on the third anniversary of the show’s premiere, which took place on April 22, 2022.

Heartstopper creator Alice Oseman, who also serves as writer and executive producer, expressed her excitement stating, “I am completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the Heartstopper story. The upcoming film will follow the critically acclaimed series that concluded its third season in October 2024. It will depict the next chapter of Nick and Charlie’s relationship, exploring the difficulties of navigating a long-distance romance as Nick prepares to leave for university.

Kit Connor and Joe Locke will reprise their roles as Nick Nelson and Charlie Spring, respectively. They will join Oseman, Patrick Walters, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, and Euros Lyn as executive producers. Wash Westmoreland, known for Still Alice, will direct the film.

In the last season, Nick and Charlie took significant steps in their relationship, raising the stakes as they faced everyday issues of love and growing up. The feature film aims to conclude their arc based on Oseman’s forthcoming sixth graphic novel, which has not yet been published.

Oseman has noted that the narrative will tackle how their friends also deal with the ups and downs of love and friendship. “Can first loves really last forever?” the synopsis asks, hinting at the challenges that lie ahead for the young couple.

The series has received critical acclaim for its sensitive portrayal of LGBTQ relationships and has built a strong fan base since its inception. The film adaptation marks a growing trend in television where popular series conclude with movies, a format used by shows such as Sense8 and Deadwood.
