Heartstopper Movie Announcement Netflix Cast And Crew

LOS ANGELES, April 22, 2025 — Fans of the Netflix series Heartstopper have received exciting news regarding the conclusion of the beloved show, as the streaming platform greenlights a feature film to serve as the series finale. This announcement, made on the third anniversary of the show’s premiere on April 22, 2022, marks a new chapter for Nick and Charlie, the main characters portrayed by Kit Connor and Joe Locke.

The new movie, which will also star and be executive produced by Connor and Locke, is directed by Wash Westmoreland, known for his work on Still Alice and Colette. The film is based on the upcoming sixth volume of Alice Oseman‘s graphic novel series, which provides the rich source material for the show’s narrative.

Oseman, who also serves as a writer and executive producer for the film, expressed her excitement about the project. “I am completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the Heartstopper story,” Oseman said. “I’m so grateful to everyone who has worked hard to make this possible and to the incredible fans of Heartstopper for your patience and passion. I cannot wait to bring this story to a magical conclusion.”

The movie promises to explore the evolving relationship between Nick and Charlie as they face challenges associated with growing up and the reality of long-distance relationships. With Nick preparing for university and Charlie gaining new independence, their connection is put to the test. Additionally, the narrative will delve into the lives of their friends, showcasing how they navigate love and friendship.

Despite the recent dip in viewership — Season 3 garnered 10.9 million views, down about 30% from the previous season — interest in Heartstopper remains strong, evidenced by the additional 8.8 million views from the first two seasons in late 2024. The series maintains its cultural relevance and critical acclaim, remaining a touchstone in LGBTQ+ representation.

Production will begin in summer 2025, and while details on the release date remain under wraps, the anticipation among fans continues to build. Previous instances of TV series concluding with films, such as Sense8 and Timeless, showcase that the trend of giving beloved shows a proper send-off is gaining momentum.

Locke and Connor have become sought-after actors following their breakout roles in Heartstopper. Both expressed their commitment to returning for the movie, emphasizing the importance of delivering an authentic conclusion to the narrative. “I’d definitely like to do it as long as it’s done right,” Connor stated, underlining his dedication to preserving the show’s essence.

The Heartstopper movie is set to be a defining moment for both the cast and the fans, promising to encapsulate the themes of love, growth, and the bittersweet nature of change.
