“7th Heaven” Cast Addresses Stephen Collins’ Past Misconduct
Three main cast members of the television show “7th Heaven” have publicly spoken out against the past misconduct of their former colleague, Stephen Collins. During a rewatch of the series on the podcast “Catching Up with the Camdens,” actors Beverley Mitchell, Mackenzie Rosman, and David Gallagher addressed the serious allegations against Collins, emphasizing they had no inappropriate experiences with him.
Beverley Mitchell, known for her role as Lucy Camden, stated, “We want you to know that we see all of your comments and we know how excited you all are for the rewatch.” She disclosed the need to address Collins, ensuring that they do not “excuse or condone his behavior.”
Mackenzie Rosman, who portrayed Ruthie Camden, mentioned that while it would be “impossible” not to discuss Collins due to his central role in the show, they were clear about their own experiences. “We did not have any inappropriate experiences with Stephen,” Rosman said. The podcast aims to maintain a connection with fans, focusing on nostalgia and fond memories of the show despite the controversy.
David Gallagher, playing Simon Camden in the series, added, “All forms of abuse, sexual abuse of any kind, it’s inexcusable. And victims of abuse need to be shown compassion, and they should be given support.” He acknowledged the topic’s sensitive nature and thanked the audience for their ongoing support.
Stephen Collins, recognized for his role as Reverend Eric Camden on “7th Heaven,” admitted in 2014 to engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct with minors in incidents that occurred from 1973 to 1994. Collins confessed to situations involving three young girls, acknowledging the severity of his actions while expressing regret.
Following the revelations, Collins was removed from roles in “Scandal” and the film “Ted 2” and stepped down from the SAG-AFTRA board. Reruns of “7th Heaven” were also pulled from some networks. Collins has not worked as an actor since these allegations were made public.
The information about Collins came to light through audio recorded during a 2012 marriage therapy session, a recording that Collins claims was made without his or the therapist’s consent. In his defense, Collins has stated that he has made efforts to atone for his actions over the years.
