Minnesota Thunderstorms Weather

ST. PAUL, Minnesota — Showers and thunderstorms are already developing across western Minnesota this evening and will continue to spread eastward through the night. This weather pattern is shaping up to be a soaking rainfall event that will last well into Tuesday.

Rain will fall heavily at times overnight and into the Tuesday morning commute. Drivers are advised to give themselves extra time, as roads will be wet, visibility will be reduced, and standing water could slow travel further. Along and south of Interstate 94, this system is expected to bring two to three inches of rainfall, providing much-needed water for lawns, gardens, and local streams.

However, the rainfall will miss areas that need it most. Northern Minnesota, where wildfires continue to burn, is likely to receive very little precipitation from this system. Meteorologist Chris Reece emphasized the significance of this rain, but noted the mixed impact on different regions of the state.

Temperatures will also be a factor as Tuesday will be chilly with highs struggling to reach the 40s. Winds will add a bite to the cool conditions. Showers are expected to continue into Wednesday, keeping the region damp and cool through midweek.

Dry conditions are forecasted for Thursday and Friday, although temperatures will remain on the cooler side of normal. A slight chance for showers returns by the weekend, but nothing is expected to be widespread.

Residents are encouraged to keep umbrellas close, plan for longer commutes, and appreciate the sound of the much-needed rain tonight.
