High School Football Midway Updates and Highlights for Oregon Teams

Salem, Oregon – As the high school football season reaches its midpoint, teams across Oregon are shifting their focus to district play. With league standing and postseason berths at stake, every game counts more than ever.
This week, five key games are on the radar, showcasing the intense competition as teams aim for automatic playoff spots or improve their rankings for at-large selections in the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA).
Last Friday night, Willamette High School solidified its lead in Class 6A Special District 1 with a hard-fought 19-10 victory at West Salem High School. The win propels the Wolverines into a strong position as the season heads into the final stretch.
In soccer news, Barlow’s Matty Callison has been named The Oregonian/OregonLive boys soccer player of the week for the week of Sept. 22. Callison has made a significant impact this season, scoring 11 goals and providing seven assists. His standout performances contributed to a 2-0 victory against West Salem on Sept. 23 and a 1-1 draw with Cleveland on Sept. 25.
As the Portland Interscholastic League heats up, the previously winless Roosevelt Roughriders have transformed into strong contenders. They secured their first victory with an impressive second-half comeback against Lincoln, winning 18-14. This resurgence has made them the team to watch in the league.
