New York Times Connections Daily Word Game

San Francisco, CA — The New York Times offers daily word puzzles in its popular game Connections, challenging players to group words into categories. On May 6, players tackled a fresh set of 16 words in today’s puzzle, which requires critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

The objective is to arrange the words into four groups of four based on shared characteristics. Among the word categories today are common themes such as silence, tennis competition units, size comparisons, and playful teasing.

“We aim to provide hints to ease players into solving the puzzles,” said Kris Holt, a contributor and word game enthusiast. “Each grouping gets trickier as you go along, especially the purple category, which often features more abstract connections.”

Today’s challenges featured hints categorized by color: yellow as the easiest, green and blue as moderate, and purple as the most difficult. The yellow group pertains to concepts associated with silence, such as calm, hush, peace, and still. The green group refers to tennis competition units: game, match, set, and tournament.

Meanwhile, the blue group involves words signifying something comparatively small: baby, compact, minute, and toy. Lastly, the elusive purple group consists of words that all begin with synonyms for ‘tease’: kidney, mockingbird, razzmatazz, and ribbon.

Players can share their progress and results with friends, making the game a social activity as well as a mental challenge. “Connections” is part of the NYT’s suite of games, which also includes crosswords and Sudoku, available across digital platforms and the Games app.

The game resets each day at midnight, providing a new set of challenges for fans. Players can check the NYT website or follow Holt’s column for hints and solutions.
