PHOENIX, Ariz. — Actor Peter Navy Tuiasosopo, best known for his roles in the films “Necessary Roughness” and “Street Fighter,” passed away on February 9 from heart complications. He was 61 years old.

Tuiasosopo’s son, Manoah Peter Tuiasosopo, shared the news on Facebook shortly after his father’s death, writing, “With a heavy heart, my family and I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. Our father Peter N. Tuiasosopo made his acting debut in 1991, portraying Manumana “the Slender,” a central character in the sports comedy “Necessary Roughness,” which showcased a fictional college football team. Following this, he appeared in the 1994 blockbuster “Street Fighter,” where he played E. Honda, a beloved character from the popular video game.

Throughout his career, Tuiasosopo worked on numerous television shows, including guest spots on “NCIS,” “Ray Donovan,” and “New Girl.” He also had a role in the Disney series “Kickin’ It” as Yoshi Nakamura, a former sumo wrestler.

In film, Tuiasosopo’s credits included roles in franchises and notable movies such as “The Fast and the Furious,” “A Perfect Getaway,” and “Batman & Robin.” His versatility saw him excel in both comedic and dramatic roles, contributing significantly to his popularity.

Before breaking into acting, Tuiasosopo had a brief career in the NFL. He was signed as a free agent by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1987, but he faced challenges that led him to transition into acting.
