Sheinelle Jones Co Host Today Show Update

NEW YORK, NY — Sheinelle Jones‘ co-hosts on NBC‘s “Today” show have provided a heartfelt update regarding her absence. Jones has been away from the program since December 18, 2024, as she manages a family health concern. Her fellow anchors Craig Melvin, Al Roker, and Dylan Dreyer revealed the details during an interview on Friday.

“I just talked to her a couple of days ago, and as you know she’s taking some time to be with her family, and we talk to her all the time,” Melvin shared. He added, “We love our girl. It’s been nice to see how much everyone else loves her, too.” Melvin’s remarks emphasized the close-knit bond between the co-hosts and their support for Jones.

Dylan Dreyer confirmed that Jones will return. She stated, “She misses being here — she wishes she was here with us, but she’s doing what she needs to do.” Roker also chimed in, affirming, “We’re just praying for her.” They all expressed hope for her swift return to the show.

Jones announced her leave in an Instagram post in January, explaining that she needed time to deal with a family health matter. “I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show,” she wrote. “It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have not only the support of my Today show family, but to also have all of you. Your kindness means so much to me. I’ll see you soon.” Jones’ acknowledgment of her absence and gratitude for support highlighted her connection with her audience.

During a previous broadcast of “Today,” Melvin and co-host Savannah Guthrie had also sent their love to Jones, stating that they missed her. “We know so many of you have been asking about Sheinelle and missing her,” Guthrie said. Melvin added, “Sheinelle, we all love you and are so looking forward to having you back.” The trio’s camaraderie is well-regarded among viewers.

Jones, who has been a part of the “Today” family since 2014, often fills in for Melvin or Savannah Guthrie as needed. Her absence came shortly after the departure of co-host Hoda Kotb, who also announced her exit last year after 17 years.

Melvin recently recalled the advice Jones shared with him when he took the reins for Kotb’s position. He expressed to Jones, “You and I had a great conversation yesterday that I needed. You’re like, ‘Today, just receive it.’” This exchange demonstrated the mentoring relationship they share.

Sources have confirmed that Jones’ family health matter is serious, but it does not involve her or her children. She and her husband, Uche Ojeh, are the parents of three — 15-year-old Kayin and 12-year-old twins Clara and Uche. A source told People that Jones appreciates the support she has received during this challenging time, especially from her close-knit co-hosts and fans.

As the “Today” team eagerly awaits Jones’ return, they remain hopeful for her well-being and family situation. The bond among the co-hosts reflects a strong sense of community and support, both on and off the air.
