Hubble Captures Stunning Image of Spider Galaxy UGC 5829
The Hubble Space Telescope has recently captured a mesmerizing image of the nearby irregular galaxy, UGC 5829, also referred to as the Spider Galaxy, located in the constellation of Leo Minor approximately 30 million light-years away.
Despite its faint nature, the galaxy stands out with its striking resemblance to a spider, its distorted galactic arms reminiscent of clawed legs.
Another galaxy, the Spiderweb Galaxy, shares a similar name but lies much further away from Earth, about 300 times the distance of the Spider Galaxy.
Known by various names in different catalogs, the Spider Galaxy is officially cataloged as UGC 5829 in the Uppsala General Catalogue of Galaxies, as well as LEDA 31923, MCG+06-24-006, and SDSS J104242.78+342657.3 in other databases.
On the other hand, the Spiderweb Galaxy, cataloged as LEDA 2826829, is often confused with the Spider Galaxy due to their similarly evocative names.
