Hugh Grant Bridget Jones New Film

Actor Hugh Grant has shared insights into his participation in the upcoming Bridget Jones film, adapted from Helen Fielding’s novel “Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy.” Speaking on the “Graham Norton Show” on October 3rd, Grant disclosed that his involvement in the film was not initially planned, as there was “no obvious role” for him.

The Love Actually star reprises his role as Daniel Cleaver, a former love interest of the titular character, Bridget Jones, who now navigates life as a single mother following the death of her husband, Mark Darcy. Grant commented on the film’s script, describing it as “good and moving,” packed with humor and sadness. “There was no obvious role for me, but I was crammed in,” he mentioned on the show.

Discussing his creative contribution, Grant revealed he invented an “interim story” for his character to avoid a notion of a 60-year-old Daniel Cleaver “wandering around looking at young girls.” Reflecting on his parents’ views about his acting career, Grant humorously recounted how they were “not at all supportive” with aspirations for him to pursue a more traditional career path.

The film, set for release on Valentine’s Day next year, rekindles elements from the original franchise, which achieved notable success and an Oscar nomination for Renée Zellweger, who returns as Bridget Jones. Despite early speculation, fellow actors Colin Firth, portraying Mark Darcy in the series, is not expected to reprise his role as it aligns with Fielding’s source material.

Also featured on the “Graham Norton Show” was actor Sebastian Stan, discussing his role as former US President Donald Trump in “The Apprentice” film. Stan mentioned overcoming doubts and preparing by gaining weight, highlighting a demanding though noteworthy experience on the set.

The episode, airing on BBC One, included other notable guests such as singer Perrie Edwards, comedian Greg Davies, and singer Neneh Cherry. “The Graham Norton Show” continues its broadcast on Friday nights at 10.40 pm and is available on the BBC iPlayer.
