Hugh Grant’s Return in Bridget Jones 4: A New Role for Daniel Cleaver
Hugh Grant is set to return in the upcoming film Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, the fourth installment of the Bridget Jones franchise. However, his character, Daniel Cleaver, will be portrayed differently this time around. Unlike his previous roles as a womanizing and complicated love interest, Cleaver will now serve more as an ally and friend to Bridget Jones, played by Renée Zellweger[2][4].
The new film, based on Helen Fielding‘s 2013 novel of the same name, finds Bridget Jones as a widow and mother of two, coping with the death of her husband Mark Darcy, who passed away four years ago. Daniel Cleaver, who was initially thought to have died in a plane crash in the previous film, is revealed to be alive and supportive of Bridget in her new life[4].
Despite his changed role, Cleaver still retains some of his old playboy characteristics, but these are no longer directed towards Bridget. Instead, he provides a supportive presence as she navigates her life as a single mother and explores new romantic interests.
The film, directed by Michael Morris, is set to release on February 13, 2025, and features a cast including Renée Zellweger, Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Leo Woodall. Notably, Colin Firth will also appear in the film, albeit in flashbacks and as a figment of Bridget’s imagination[4].
Hugh Grant has also been involved in other recent projects, including the horror film Heretic, and has expressed his eclectic taste in movies by naming his favorite films, which include The Sound of Music, Finding Nemo, and Blue from Krzysztof Kieślowski’s Three Colors trilogy.
