Icc World Test Championship 2023 25

As the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle progresses, teams are strategizing to secure a spot in the final, set to take place at Lord's Cricket Ground in London. With eight matches remaining, Team India, led by Rohit Sharma, is at the top of the standings and on track for their third consecutive WTC final appearance.

India needs to win three of their remaining eight Tests to ensure a top-two finish. Their upcoming matches include a crucial series against Bangladesh, where they are expected to score a victory in the second Test.

Australia currently holds the second spot on the WTC points table. With seven matches left, they require four wins to solidify their chances. A pivotal five-match Test series against India looms, challenging Australia, which has struggled against India recently. However, the Australian team is noted for its balance, setting the stage for a competitive series.

Sri Lanka, under the guidance of head coach Sanath Jayasuriya, has bolstered its home performance. With a win against New Zealand and a solid performance against England, Sri Lanka stands third, highlighted by Kamindu Mendis‘ standout batting prowess. Their away series in South Africa will be decisive in their quest for WTC final qualification.

New Zealand’s path to the final has become arduous after losses to Sri Lanka. Winning their upcoming series against India and England is now imperative to stay in contention.

South Africa, with key home series ahead, aims to disrupt Australia’s progression to the final. Their upcoming matches against Bangladesh will largely dictate their qualifications, needing five wins from six remaining Tests.

England faces an uphill battle with six away matches against Pakistan and New Zealand, needing wins in all to remain in the final race.

Bangladesh’s hopes are fading after a series defeat to India, needing victories in four out of their remaining matches. Meanwhile, Pakistan faces long odds to reach the WTC final given their current form and position.

The current WTC points table has India at the top with a win percentage of 74.27%, followed by Australia at 62.5%, and Sri Lanka at 55.56%. England and South Africa occupy the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

Top performers in terms of individual statistics include England’s Joe Root leading with 1,398 runs during the cycle, followed by India’s YBK Jaiswal with 1,217 runs. In bowling, India’s R Ashwin tops the wickets tally with 53 wickets, followed by Australia’s JR Hazlewood with 51 wickets.
