Indian 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 1996 cult vigilante drama, has made a striking debut at the box office, amassing an impressive ₹25.6 crore on its very first day of release in India. Reprising their collaboration after 18 years, veteran actor Kamal Haasan and renowned filmmaker Shankar have once again come together to bring back the iconic character of ‘Indian Thatha’ to the big screen.

The movie’s initial day collection of ₹25.6 crore comprises ₹16.5 crore from the Tamil market, ₹7.9 crore from the Telugu market, and ₹1.2 crore from the Hindi market. Dubbed as Bharateeyudu 2 in Telugu and Hindustani 2 in Hindi, the film has managed to captivate audiences across various regions, signaling a strong comeback for director Shankar.

Indian 2 faced a tough showdown at the box office, encountering competition from other major releases like Kalki 2898 AD, a star-studded sci-fi epic featuring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone. Despite this clash, Indian 2 managed to hold its ground and secure a substantial opening day collection.

Director Shankar is celebrated for his successful collaborations in the past, particularly with actor Rajinikanth in movies like Enthiran, Indian, Mudhalvan, Boys, and Shivaji: The Boss. The original music maestro, A R Rahman, composed the music for the first film, while Anirudh took charge of the sequel’s music. The ensemble cast of Indian 2 includes Siddharth, S J Suryah, Bobby Simha, Gulshan Grover, and late veteran actor Nedumudi Venu.

Prior to its release, the makers of Indian 2 navigated through some challenges, including seeking permissions for special showtimes in Tamil Nadu, where certain restrictions apply. Despite the hurdles, the film managed to secure an enthusiastic response from audiences, setting the stage for a successful run at the box office.
