Indian 2, the long-awaited sequel to the 1996 hit vigilante drama Indian, hit the screens on July 12, 2024, under the directorial guidance of Shankar and the impressive acting skills of Kamal Haasan. The film features a star-studded cast, including Priya Bhavani Shankar, Siddharth, S J Suryah, Bobby Simha, Gulshan Grover, and Nedumudi Venu.

Anirudh‘s music accompanies the intense action sequences and gripping storyline, as the sequel dives into the world of corruption and justice once again.

Kamal Haasan reprises his role as Senapathy, also known as ‘Indian Thatha’, a character revered by fans for its vigilante justice methods and ancient martial art practices.

The film is set against the backdrop of a war on corruption and social injustice, showcasing Kamal Haasan’s portrayal of Indian Thatha with finesse.

Despite the mixed reviews, the opening day collections of Indian 2 stand at an impressive ₹25.6 crore, with a significant contribution from the Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi markets.

Indian 2 faces stiff competition from Nag Ashwin‘s Kalki 2898 AD and Sudha Kongara‘s Soorarai Pottru remake Sarfira, featuring Akshay Kumar in the lead role.

Shankar and Kamal Haasan have made a formidable duo in the past, delivering hits like Enthiran, Mudhalvan, Boys, and Shivaji: The Boss. The collaboration of AR Rahman and Shankar in the original Indian had set high expectations for the sequel.

The sequel not only brings back the essence of the original but also introduces new elements and characters, such as Supreme Yaskin, played by Gulshan Grover.

The film marks Shankar’s return to the spotlight after the unfortunate demise of his long-time collaborator, Sujatha, in 2008. The audience is waiting to see if Indian 2 lives up to the anticipation created by its successful predecessor.
