BENGALURU, India — Instagram experienced a widespread outage Wednesday morning, with thousands of users reporting issues accessing the Meta-owned photo-sharing app. Downdetector.com, a site that tracks service disruptions, recorded over 11,000 reports at the peak of the outage.

By 9:32 a.m. ET, the number of reported incidents had dropped significantly to 619, indicating that the issue was largely resolved for many users. The outage-detecting site relies on user-submitted reports, and the actual number of affected users may vary.

Meta, Instagram’s parent company, did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Reuters or other media outlets. This marks the latest in a series of disruptions affecting Meta’s platforms, including Facebook and WhatsApp, which faced multiple outages last year.

Downdetector’s data is compiled from various sources, including user reports and social media activity. The site serves as a key resource for tracking real-time service issues across major platforms.

As of now, the cause of the outage remains unclear. Meta has yet to release an official statement addressing the incident or its resolution.
