Internet Reacts to Deepika Padukone’s Role in ‘Singham Again’
Deepika Padukone, the acclaimed actress known for her roles in blockbuster films like “Pathaan,” “Jawan,” and “Kalki 2898 AD,” has been announced as part of the leading ensemble cast in Rohit Shetty‘s upcoming film “Singham Again.” The film, which is expected to continue the success of its predecessors, sees Padukone taking on the role of Shakti Shetty, a police officer aligned with the titular character portrayed by Ajay Devgn.
Despite the excitement surrounding the announcement, the reaction on social media has been mixed. The trailer’s release, where Padukone features prominently speaking in a Marathi accent and declaring herself “Lady Singham,” has invited criticism from certain quarters. One user on X, formerly known as Twitter, commented on Padukone’s performance unfavorably, while others compared it to her previous works.
A particular point of contention for some viewers has been Padukone’s accent in the film. In a shared clip, an X user remarked, “naah (crying emojis) what is wrong with her.” Discussions on Reddit and other platforms have echoed similar sentiments, questioning the “forced ‘Tapori’ (street) accent” and expressing disappointment.
The comparison didn’t stop at her accent. Some users juxtaposed her look in “Singham Again” with that of actress Nayanthara‘s in “Jawan,” describing Padukone’s portrayal less favorably. Others mentioned an old interview with filmmaker Farah Khan, who had introduced Deepika to the industry in “Om Shanti Om,” noting that her diction had been a challenge from the start.
Nevertheless, “Singham Again” marks Padukone’s return to the screen following the birth of her daughter with husband Ranveer Singh, who also stars in the film. The movie will also feature a star-studded cast including Kareena Kapoor, Tiger Shroff, Akshay Kumar, and Arjun Kapoor. It is slated for release on November 1, coinciding with the Diwali festival.
The film is part of Rohit Shetty’s successful “Singham” franchise, which has been popular for its action-packed sequences and ensemble casts. As anticipation builds for its release, the mixed reactions underscore the high expectations audiences have for major figures like Deepika Padukone in Bollywood.
