Iowa Senate President’s Family Charged with Child Endangerment

BOONE COUNTY, Iowa — Evan and Victoria Sinclair, the son and daughter-in-law of Iowa Senate President Amy Sinclair, face charges of child endangerment and marijuana possession. The charges stem from a disturbing report made to Boone police.
According to court documents, law enforcement was alerted about a toddler hanging out of a second-story window at the Sinclairs’ residence. The reporting party said they rang the doorbell but received no answer and subsequently called police.
When officers arrived, Evan and Victoria opened the door. The house reportedly had a noticeable smell of marijuana, and both appeared to be under the influence. During the interaction, an officer observed a naked toddler leaning out of the window, playing with toys on a roof overhang, and later saw the child running out of the back door.
Police then asked Evan for any marijuana in the home, to which he allegedly returned with a grocery bag containing the substance.
Both Evan and Victoria Sinclair have held positions at the Iowa State Capitol. Evan is listed as the secretary to state Sen. Dave Sires, while Victoria has worked as a lobbyist for various clients in Iowa and previously for former Congressman Steve King. Sires stated he has not seen Evan since the legislative session concluded. Local 5 News has been unable to confirm Evan’s current employment status.
The couple is set to face charges on May 28.
