Isaac Cumming and Nick Haynes Depart Greater Western Sydney for New Opportunities
Isaac Cumming, a versatile unrestricted free agent, is set to leave Greater Western Sydney (GWS) and move to a South Australian club. Although he has not confirmed his preferred destination, Cumming communicated his desire to relocate to South Australia shortly after the Giants’ season concluded in a heartbreaking fashion. As per reports on AFL.com.au, the clubs in contention for his signature include the Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide, both of which have put forward four-year offers.
Cumming originally was part of the Giants’ academy, playing both wing and defense positions. However, injuries limited him to just six games in the 2024 season. The Giants could potentially receive a compensation draft pick if he decides to move once the free agency window opens on October 4.
Meanwhile, fellow GWS defender Nick Haynes is expected to join Carlton as an unrestricted free agent. The Giants acknowledged Haynes’ departure, expressing gratitude for his 13 seasons with the club. Haynes, a life member and inaugural player of GWS, has played 211 games and was a member of the 2020 All-Australian team.
Significant interest surrounds another free agent, Harry Perryman, who is considering offers from multiple clubs. Port Adelaide and Hawthorn have shown interest, while the Giants are offering a six-year deal. Notably, the Magpies have reportedly increased their offer after Mark Keane decided to continue with the Crows.
The departure of Cumming and Haynes marks the beginning of a significant off-season movement for GWS following their exit from the finals. Other players such as James Peatling, Lachlan Keefe, Conor Stone, and Braydon Preuss are also uncontracted for 2025, prompting further speculation about the team’s future composition.
GWS football boss Jason McCartney extended the club’s wishes to Haynes, stating, “We want to thank Nick for his 13 seasons at the club and he leaves with our best wishes as he looks to seek more AFL opportunities.”
