ISKCON’s Chairman Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaj Expires After Being Hospitalized in Dehradun for Three Days
The spiritual leader and Chairman of ISKCON, Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaj, passed away early this morning in Dehradun after being hospitalized for three days. His final moments were marked by grief among his followers.
Goswami Maharaj had attended a foundation stone-laying ceremony at the Dudhli temple on May 2nd. During the event, he slipped and fell, leading to complications in his lungs.
He was undergoing treatment at Synery Hospital in Dehradun for the past three days. Confirming his demise, the hospital’s MD, Kamal Garg, provided the necessary information.
Devotees will have the opportunity to pay their last respects to Goswami Maharaj at the ISKCON temple in Delhi this afternoon. Tomorrow, his body will be transported to Vrindavan, although the exact timing of this event is yet to be determined.
Born in 1944 in New Delhi, Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaj excelled as a student and was awarded scholarships to study at Sorbonne University in France and McGill University in Canada. In 1968, he met his guru and ISKCON’s founder, A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in Canada, dedicating himself to sharing the teachings of Lord Krishna and Sanatana Dharma for global peace and well-being.
