Islesboro Seaside Mansion Sells for Record $7.5 Million

ISLESORDO, Maine – A stunning seaside mansion has sold for a record $7.5 million, making it the highest-priced residential sale in Islesboro’s history. The property, which features over 13,000 square feet of living space, 15 bedrooms, and 17 bathrooms, was listed for the first time in decades.
The estate was initially available for just over $5 million and is registered under two companies, including a New York-based accounting firm. Listing agents from Legacy Properties Sotheby’s International Realty chose not to comment on the buyer or provide further details about the sale.
Islesboro, known for its affluent residents such as Kirstie Alley and John Travolta, is approximately 14 miles long and lies three miles off the coast of Lincolnville in Penobscot Bay. With about 600 year-round residents, the island’s luxury real estate market is seeing a notable uptick in high-dollar sales.
The real estate market’s resilience continues to draw buyers, even years after the pandemic-spurred boom. Earlier this year, Kennebunkport recorded an all-time sale of $12 million, while another property made headlines in Rangeley last month for breaking previous sale records.
Experts believe Maine is one of the most affordable states in the U.S. for luxury coastal real estate, which contributes to the persistent demand. While luxury homes may now sit on the market longer amid increasing inventory, prices are generally rising due to ongoing interest.
Since its listing, this luxury estate, built in 1908, has undergone at least one price reduction; it was initially priced at $8.5 million last year. Set on 4.2 acres with over 800 feet of shore frontage, the property includes a deep-water dock, a beach, a heated in-ground pool, a greenhouse, and a three-car garage. All of the living spaces and bedrooms boast views of Penobscot Bay. Additionally, a carriage house with an apartment provides options for accommodating guests or potential rental income.
