Locarno, Switzerland – Jackie Chan, the legendary martial arts icon, will receive the prestigious Pardo alla Carriera, or Career Leopard award, at this year’s Locarno Film Festival. Set to take place on Saturday, August 9, the award recognizes Chan’s significant influence in both Asian and Hollywood cinema.

The festival will honor Chan, 71, on the evening of the award ceremony, where he is expected to introduce two of his classic films, Project A (1983) and Police Story (1985). Both films showcase his skill as both star and director, symbolizing his contributions to the action genre.

Artistic Director Giona A. Nazzaro praised Chan’s multifaceted talent, stating, “Director, producer, actor, screenwriter, choreographer, singer, athlete, and daredevil stuntman, Jackie Chan is both a key figure in contemporary Asian cinema and one whose influence has rewritten the rules of Hollywood cinema.” Nazzaro emphasized Chan’s unique ability to blend comedy with martial arts, creating a legacy that resonates with audiences worldwide.

As part of the festival, Chan will engage in a public conversation on Sunday, August 10, where he will share insights about his expansive career. His journey began in the 1960s as a child actor in Hong Kong, with his breakout success occurring in 1978 with films like Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow and Drunken Master.

Chan’s popularity soared in Asia throughout the 1980s and 1990s, making him one of the highest-grossing action stars. His Hollywood breakthrough came with the buddy comedy Rush Hour (1998), further solidifying his global superstar status.

The Locarno Film Festival, known for its dedication to independent cinema, will run from August 6 to 16, and it has previously awarded notable filmmakers such as Francesco Rosi and Shah Rukh Khan.

Chan’s career spans nearly six decades, during which his work has transcended cultural barriers and inspired millions. The festival looks forward to honoring not only his performances but also his contributions to film artistry.
