Jackie Siegel Reflects on Life After King’s Passing, Broadway Debut
NEW YORK, NY — Jackie Siegel, the focus of the documentary ‘Queen of Versailles,’ sat down with Woman’s World this week to reflect on her life after the recent passing of her husband, David Siegel, and the debut of the Broadway musical inspired by their story.
The musical officially opened at the St. James Theatre, bringing to life Jackie’s journey and the challenges the family faced while constructing the largest home in America, Versailles. Jackie expressed excitement about the Broadway production, stating, “It’s beyond my expectations. It’s so exciting. My kids came up and we walked the carpet together.”
Jackie recalled her emotional reaction when she first saw F. Murray Abraham portray her late husband on stage. “When I saw F. Murray Abraham come on stage as David Siegel, The Timeshare King, I started bawling my head off,” she said. “They brought my husband and also my daughter, Victoria, back to life.”
Her daughter, Victoria, passed away in 2015 from an overdose, a tragedy that deeply impacted Jackie and shifted the focus of their lavish lifestyle towards charitable efforts. “When we lost our daughter, it was a wakeup call,” she admitted. “Now our parties are charity driven.”
Jackie’s experiences growing up have shaped her ambition and passion as she aims to give back to the community through her mansion and various initiatives. “I want to use this house to raise awareness,” she said, emphasizing her dedication to combating the drug epidemic and preserving the environment.
Construction on the Siegel mansion began in 2004 but has faced numerous delays, including the impact of the 2008 recession and Hurricane Ian in 2022. Jackie revealed she is close to moving into the property with her son and niece. “I think I’m going to be done by January,” she said. However, she joked about waiting for a staircase railing held up in customs.
The story of the Siegels has been retold across multiple mediums, from the original documentary to the new Broadway musical. Jackie emphasizes the importance of sharing their narrative, stating, “I hope the takeaway would be to live the American Dream.” She plans to continue using her platform to advocate for better mental health, drug awareness, and environmental issues, insisting that she feels this is part of her purpose.
As she reflects on her family’s journey, Jackie sees the Broadway adaptation as an opportunity to share deeper wisdom about hope and resilience. “I really think God has put Versailles and now the Broadway show in my life so I can give back—not for me to say, ‘Oh, look what I have!’” she explained.
