South Dakota State Football Northern Iowa Game

Brookings, South Dakota – The second-ranked South Dakota State football team prepares for its first home game in the Missouri Valley Football Conference this season, facing the Northern Iowa Panthers on Saturday, October 11, at 2 p.m.

The match takes place at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium and is sold out, expected to draw a packed crowd for the 111th Hobo Day game. The Jackrabbits, boasting a 5-0 overall record and a 1-0 league mark, previously secured a thrilling 35-30 victory against Youngstown State last week.

Head Coach John Stiegelmeier praised his team’s resilience, noting, “We showed great determination coming back from a halftime deficit. Our focus now is to maintain that momentum as we head into this storied rivalry game.”

Northern Iowa arrives with a 2-3 overall record and an 0-1 mark in league play after suffering a 35-7 loss to No. 14 North Dakota in their last game. Historical matchups show that UNI leads the series with a 33-26-2 record, although SDSU has won two of the last three meetings, including a decisive 41-3 victory in Cedar Falls last year.

Looking ahead, South Dakota State aims to capitalize on home-field advantage, as winning at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium has been a hallmark for the program, giving them a strong home record since its opening in 2016.

The Jackrabbits will be looking to extend their current winning streak while maintaining focus on achieving their goals for this season. Capturing their 100th win in MVFC play last week further solidified their standing as a competitive powerhouse in the conference.
