Jackson 5’s Tito Jackson Passes Away at 70
Tito Jackson, a prominent member of the legendary music group The Jackson 5, has died at the age of 70. His family made the announcement via social media, expressing their sorrow and heartbreak over the loss of their beloved father. Tito, who was a founding member of The Jackson 5, is survived by his sons Taj, Taryll, and TJ.
The family’s statement, shared on Instagram, read, “It’s with heavy hearts that we announce that our beloved father, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tito Jackson is no longer with us. We are shocked, saddened and heartbroken. Our father was an incredible man who cared about everyone and their well-being.” Tito was affectionately known by several names including ‘Coach Tito’ and ‘Poppa T’ due to his warm and caring nature.
Tito Jackson rose to fame in the late 1960s and early 1970s as a part of The Jackson 5, alongside his brothers Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael. The group gained international fame with hits such as “I Want You Back” and “ABC.” Tito played guitar and sang as part of the ensemble, contributing to their early success and eventual induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
Despite the passing of Michael Jackson in 2009, Tito and his brothers continued to honor their musical heritage by performing together. In 2012, they embarked on their first tour in almost three decades, bringing their timeless music to fans around the world. Tito also pursued a solo career, releasing his debut album “Tito Time” in 2016.
Just days before his passing, Tito paid a heartfelt tribute to his late brother Michael Jackson, during a visit to a memorial in Munich, Germany. He expressed gratitude for the dedicated space that honors their shared legacy and kept Michael’s spirit alive. The Jacksons performed in Germany on September 10, continuing to share their music and family legacy with audiences.
