Jaguars Defeat Chiefs In Preseason Opener

In an exciting start to the NFL preseason, the Jacksonville Jaguars faced off against the Kansas City Chiefs, reigning Super Bowl champions, and emerged victorious with a 26-13 win. The game took place at EverBank Stadium, with around 61,845 fans in attendance.

The Jaguars’ strategy was clear, with the first-team offense and defense playing just two series each. Head Coach Doug Pederson praised his team for their fast and physical play. “The execution was pretty good,” he said, noting there were areas that needed improvement.

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence completed three of four passes for 42 yards during his limited time on the field, scoring a touchdown that helped the Jaguars take an early lead of 7-3. Lawrence expressed his excitement, stating, “I love touchdowns, so that was good.” Wide receiver Gabe Davis chimed in, saying the team’s offense would be fun to watch.

The Jaguars’ defense also made a strong impression, allowing only a field goal on the Chiefs’ first drive and forcing a punt on the second. Kicker Cam Little added to the score with a 40-yard field goal early in the second quarter.

Reserve quarterback C.J. Beathard showcased his skills by throwing a 35-yard touchdown pass to Devin Duvernay just before halftime, which extended the Jaguars’ lead to 18-10. Little managed to kick two more field goals in the second half, though he missed a longer attempt from 62 yards.

In the second half, quarterback Mac Jones came in for the Jaguars, completing nine of eleven passes for 98 yards. Meanwhile, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes played only the opening series, completing three of four passes for 27 yards before stepping out.

The Jaguars’ defense put pressure on the Chiefs throughout the game, registering five sacks, highlighting a solid performance from players like Esezi Otomewo and Yasir Abdullah. Lawrence noted that the depth of the team was evident, and they gained valuable experience against a formidable opponent.
