James Kennedy Apologizes After Controversial Photo With Tate Brothers Sparks Backlash

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — James Kennedy, a star of Bravo’s “Vanderpump Rules,” issued an apology on Instagram after sharing a controversial photo with siblings Andrew and Tristan Tate. The apology, posted on March 8, came in response to backlash from fans who scrutinized his association with the controversial figures, known for their inflammatory views and legal troubles.
In his statement, Kennedy, 32, expressed regret for the photo taken at a nightclub event in Las Vegas on March 7. “I regret posting a photo with the Tate brothers at an event last night,” he wrote. “I was unfamiliar with their content and the allegations against them. I only knew them as podcasters who had posted a viral clip about ‘Vanderpump.'”
He added, “I have since educated myself and condemn their beliefs. I am sorry to all that I offended.” The photo has since been removed from his social media account.
The backlash was swift, with many fans expressing their disapproval online. One user remarked, “Holy sh-t, this is so offensive to see on so many levels. Disappointed doesn’t begin to describe how I feel about this.” Another commented, “How embarrassing for the people who thought he had grown and changed.”
The Tate brothers, both 38, have faced serious allegations, including sexual assault and human trafficking in Romania and the United Kingdom, charges they deny. “We live in a democratic society where it’s innocent until proven guilty and I think my brother and I are largely misunderstood,” Andrew Tate said in recent interviews.
During the same time frame, Kennedy’s legal issues resurfaced following his domestic violence arrest in December 2024. He is accused of having an altercation with his ex-girlfriend, Ally Lewber, although he was released on bail shortly after. Kennedy has since expressed a commitment to personal growth and sobriety.
“I am taking time to focus on my sobriety, personal growth, and being present for my loved ones,” Kennedy stated in a previous Instagram post. “Navigating challenging moments is not easy, but I am determined to learn, grow, and move forward with the incredible support system around me.”
As Kennedy continues his career, he is reportedly not planning to cancel upcoming shows, including a performance alongside Paul “DJ Pauly D” DelVecchio in February. A source close to the reality star confirmed, “He won’t be canceling any of his gigs.” Meanwhile, the state of Florida has announced an investigation into the Tate brothers, which complicates the ongoing controversies surrounding Kennedy’s social media presence.
