Jason Voorhees 45th Anniversary New Look

Los Angeles, CAJason Voorhees, the infamous slasher from the Friday the 13th franchise, is receiving a new look in celebration of his 45th birthday.

The character’s refreshed design was unveiled by Horror, Inc., the company that manages the Jason Voorhees intellectual property. This update marks the launch of the “Jason Universe,” a multi-platform project set to expand the franchise across movies, games, and television.

Special effects legend Greg Nicotero, known for his work on The Walking Dead, helped develop Jason’s new design. “We strive to maintain Jason’s original essence while continuing to move toward the future with a defined look,” said Rob Barsamian, president of Horror, Inc. “He’s a strong, towering and terrifying slasher with a machete, his weapon of choice.” In the new illustration, Jason is depicted wearing dark trousers, a bloodied t-shirt, and a ripped jacket, while holding a machete.

The design is set to debut in an upcoming prequel series titled Crystal Lake, which stars Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees. This series is expected to be available on Peacock, with further projects planned within the Jason Universe, which aims to breathe new life into the iconic character.

In recent years, the rights to the Friday the 13th franchise were the subject of litigation. However, in 2024, original screenwriter Victor Miller regained control, paving the way for new collaborations. Barsamian expressed eagerness to see fresh stories that resonate with both longtime fans and a new generation.

This new era will blend nostalgia with innovation as fans anticipate more projects featuring Jason, who has not appeared in a movie since the 2009 remake of Friday the 13th. Horror, Inc. aims to reimagine what the future holds for the character and the slasher genre as a whole.
