Jeff Goldblum Discusses Voice Training and Family Life

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Actor Jeff Goldblum, 72, has openly shared his journey to improve his singing voice, stemming from an early classroom critique of his vocal range. In a recent interview with The Telegraph, Goldblum recounted his experience of being sent home from school with a note describing his voice as “unusually limited.”
Despite this feedback, Goldblum’s love for music has driven him to take extensive vocal lessons over the years. He revealed, “Singing is not something that came so naturally. I have a vague memory of being in a choir at school, and they sent me home with a note saying, ‘his range is unusually limited.’” His commitment to developing his vocal skills includes studying opera, a move he hopes will keep his voice agile.
Goldblum, who has released three studio albums with his band, The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra, expressed the unique connection he feels while performing. “Storytelling of all kinds: acting, yes, but music – boy oh boy! – can open up areas not only in the way it’s received, but in the deliverer… it is mysterious and fantastical and magical,” he said. He emphasized that the real joy of music comes from connecting with an audience rather than seeking accolades or reviews.
In the same interview, Goldblum discussed his children, Charlie, 9, and River, 7, with wife Emilie, revealing they are not particularly impressed by his films. He shared his surprise regarding their reactions to his work in popular movies, including Jurassic Park and Thor: Ragnarok. “I don’t know how impressed they were with anything. We took them to the movie theatre for ‘Wicked’. They happened to see an episode or two of ‘Kaos’ where I play Zeus,” he said. Goldblum noted his sons find joy in darker material, yet he has intentionally not shown them the film The Fly.
Goldblum’s experiences illustrate a blend of personal and professional growth as he navigates the challenges of both his acting career and fatherhood in the public eye. He remains committed to honing his vocal talents and strengthening his bond with his children, all while embracing the unpredictable journey of an acting career.
