Jennifer Lopez Debuts ‘Kiss of the Spider Woman’ at Sundance 2025
PARK CITY, Utah — Jennifer Lopez made her musical film debut with the world premiere of Kiss of the Spider Woman at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 26. The 55-year-old singer-actress expressed overwhelming gratitude for the reception of her latest project, sharing her excitement with fans on Instagram.
In her post, Lopez included a glowing review from The Hollywood Reporter alongside a photo of herself at the premiere. “One of the many reviews from last night, and my heart is so full,” she wrote. “This project has been such a labor of love, and seeing your excitement means the world to me. I am so grateful!!!”
Lopez, who stars as Aurora in the film, described the movie as a dream come true. During a post-screening discussion, she reflected on her lifelong passion for musicals. “I’ve been waiting for this moment my whole life,” she said. “When you talk about the importance of musicals, the reason that I even wanted to be in this business was because my family would sit me in front of the TV… we’d watch West Side Story on Thanksgiving. I remember I was just mesmerized. And I was like, ‘That’s what I want to do.'”
Kiss of the Spider Woman, co-produced by Lopez and her ex-husband Marc Anthony, is set during Argentina‘s civil war in the 1980s. The film follows political prisoner Valentin Arregui, played by Tonatiuh, who forms a bond with fellow inmate Luis Molina, portrayed by Javier Bardem. Lopez’s character, Aurora, is the object of Molina’s obsession.
Lopez emphasized that this project marks her first true musical. “I did Selena years ago, but it was not my voice,” she said, referencing the 1997 biopic. “They wanted to use her voice. I did dance a little, but there wasn’t much choreography. So this was my first musical.”
The film received a standing ovation at Sundance, leaving Lopez visibly emotional. While a theater release date has yet to be announced, the premiere has already generated significant buzz among fans and critics alike.
