Jesse Tyler Ferguson Reveals Hilarious Story About Snorting Powdered Milk

LOS ANGELES, CA — Jesse Tyler Ferguson shared an amusing behind-the-scenes story during a recent episode of his podcast, “Dinner’s On Me.” The ‘Modern Family‘ star recounted an unconventional acting choice that led to a nasal yeast infection while performing in the off-Broadway play “Where Do We Live.”
During a discussion with guest Luke Macfarlane, Ferguson remembered how he and his co-stars decided to simulate drug use by snorting powdered milk on stage. “I remember we did cocaine on stage, and we actually snorted powdered milk. I was like, I don’t know if that was necessary,” he said. “I don’t think anyone was close enough to actually see the powder go up our nose.”
Ferguson further revealed the downside of their decision: “But I remember giving myself, like, basically a yeast infection in my nose because I was snorting so much powdered milk.” His anecdote stunned Macfarlane, who expressed horror over the story.
The two actors reflected on their friendship that spans over two decades. Ferguson recalled meeting Macfarlane during the off-Broadway production in 2004. “It was such a special time; you had just graduated from Julliard and were getting a pretty prominent lead role in a high-profile off-Broadway play,” Ferguson noted.
Macfarlane, on his part, shared memories of the challenging role that included simulated drug use and nudity. However, he opted for realism by smoking cigarettes to portray his character, which he admitted became difficult to quit.
Ferguson’s podcast has become a platform for candid stories. Previously, he opened up about a late-night visit to actor Bradley Cooper‘s home with Brooke Shields, recalling, “He could not have been kinder. I was like, ‘I’m so sorry.’ He was watching late-night TV, and everything was good.”
In addition to entertaining stories, Ferguson discussed the complexities of being an openly gay actor. He highlighted that portraying a gay character like Mitchell Pritchett on “Modern Family” was important to him socially, especially for the marriage equality movement.
Since the series ended, Ferguson has taken on various roles, including appearing in the 2023 film “Cocaine Bear.” His journey continues to inspire many, both on and off the stage.
