Jessica Simpson Opens Up After Split with Eric Johnson

LOS ANGELES, CA — One month after announcing her split from husband Eric Johnson, Jessica Simpson, 44, revealed during an interview how her music journey has played a significant role in her emotional recovery. The couple, married for nearly a decade, share three children: daughters Maxwell and Birdie, and son Ace.
In her recent comments, Simpson emphasized that despite the separation, Johnson remains an integral part of her life. “I’ve grown up so much. I can handle so much,” she shared with People. “At least I have my children and I still have Eric. He’s still very much a part of my life and will always be.” She acknowledged the struggles of navigating this painful chapter, stating, “Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them.”
Simpson and Johnson’s decision to separate was publicly disclosed in January, although details surrounding the split’s timeline were not specified. She expressed gratitude for the support they’ve received, highlighting the importance of privacy during this difficult time.
Reflecting on her recent work, Simpson noted that her music has contributed to her healing. Her new project, “Nashville Canyon, Part 1,” features five songs infused with soul and rockabilly influences. “Discovering this music is something I did on my own. Thank God I had Nashville, it was just a way of me owning myself and declaring it,” Simpson stated.
One of the singles from the album, “Use My Heart Against Me,” has been called a “sexy” track that expresses the complex feelings of longing and desire while navigating heartache. “It’s kind of craving someone that you want again, and you don’t care if your heart is used against you — if it’s just for one night. Like, give it over, just for the experience again,” she explained.
As she embarks on this new chapter, Simpson noted, “I am a woman now, and I can do what I want and to have freedom in music — I think that’s what you’re going to feel in ‘Nashville Canyon.'” This empowering perspective marks a significant moment in her artistic journey.
In addition to her creative endeavors, Simpson shared glimpses of her personal life, including a glamorous photo from December showcasing her alongside musical equipment, expressing her eagerness for fans to hear her new music.
